Manuel Melendez

Services are scheduled at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, August 20, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Manuel H. Melendez, 1109 N. 6th St., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Melendez, 79, died Thursday, August 18, 2005 at his home. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Rosco, Martin Catano, Michael Anthony Thomas, Jose Mendoza, Roy Salsberry, and Simon Salazar. A rosary is also scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday at Our Lady of Grace Church. Mr. Melendez was born November 14, 1925 in Loraine, Texas; the son of Juan Melendez and Rafaela Melendez. On October 2, 1949 he was married to Ydubina Bihl in Presidio, Texas. He came to Artesia in 1951 from Texas. He was a farm laborer and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister. Survivors include his wife Ydubina Melendez of the family home; sons Manuel Melendez of Artesia, and Francisco Melendez of Artesia; daughters Helen Mariscal and husband Santos of Artesia, Josie Melendez of Albuquerque, N.M., and Carol Thomas of Sierra Vista, Arizona; brothers Jose Melendez of Artesia, and Jesus Melendez of Phoenix, Arizona; sisters Rosa Barriga of Phoenix, and Magdelena Melendez of Phoenix; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
