Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Friday, December 15, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Manuel Chavez Fierro, 606 N. 6th Street, Artesia, New Mexico. PMr. Fierro, 86, died Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Artesia General Hospital. PFr. Richard Lifrak SS. CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Martin Molina, Kandy Jackson, Jayson Vargas, Darren Fierro, Miguel Fierro, Eloy Fierro, and Mikey Fierro. PVisitation will be at Terpening amp; Son Mortuary beginning at 10:00 a.m. Thursday. A prayer service is also scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace Church. PMr. Fierro was born September 1, 1920 in Candelaria, Texas; the son of Reyes Fierro and Milquitez Chavez Fierro. POn Dec. 31, 1940 he was married to Marta Almanza in Carlsbad, N.M. He came to Artesia in 1935 from Texas. PHe served in the U.S. Army during World War II. PHe was a carpenter and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. PHe was preceded in death by his parents; and sons Gilbert and David Fierro.
Survivors include his wife Marta Fierro of the family home; sons Manuel Fierro, Jr. of Carlsbad, and Robert Fierro of Lubbock, Texas; daughters Mary Vargas of Artesia, and Veronica Baker of Brunswick, Georgia; brothers Felix Fierro of Artesia, and Al Fierro of Mexico; sisters Dalia Moreno of Artesia, Susie Fierro of Albuquerque, N.M., and Lisa Natera of California; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
