Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 17, at Terpening Son Chapel for Manuel M. Acosta, 810 W. Cannon Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Acosta, 89, died Saturday, December 15, 2007 at his home. Richard Leaton will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons Jesse Acosta Jr., Jeffrey Acosta, Trini Grado, Michael Paul Ontiveros, Christopher Acosta, and Amos Grado. Honorary pallbearers will be all other grandsons. Mr. Acosta was born October 13, 1918 in Barancos, Mexico; the son of Macario Acosta and Bonifacia Melendez Acosta. On Aug. 18, 1940 he was married to Dominga Porras in Mexico. He came to Artesia in 1940 from Mexico. He was a farm laborer and member of Jehovahs Witnesses. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son. Survivors include his wife Dominga Acosta of the family home; daughter Mary Franco and husband Paul of Artesia; sons Manuel Acosta and wife Helen of Artesia, Epemino Acosta and wife Gloria of Roswell, N.M., Jesse Acosta and wife Emma of Artesia, Ereminio Acosta of Roswell, Salvador Acosta and wife Lydia of Midland, Texas, and Mack Acosta of Artesia; sisters Lola Machuca of Pecos, Texas Inez Olivas of Odessa, Texas, and Tomasa Salgado of Pecos; brother Pete Acosta of Pecos; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
