Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, at Our Lady of Grace Church for Lupe L. Hernandez of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Hernandez, 85, died Sunday, February 14, 2016 at his home.
Fr. Martin Cornejo will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ishmael Ray Chavarria, Andrew Chavarria, Aaron Vasquez, John Hernandez, Juan Perez, Manuel Esquibel Jr. and Pete Subia.
Visitation will be on Thursday at Terpening & Son Mortuary beginning at 10:00 a.m. A Rosary will be held on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace.
Lupe was born April 21, 1930 in Spur, Texas; the son of Manuel Hernandez and Manuela (Luna) Hernandez. He was a longtime Artesia resident.
On July 16, 1955 he was married to Eloisa Anaya Hernandez. She preceded him in death on September 2, 1973.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was a truck driver for Rose Gravel, a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and Cursillitas. Lupe helped with the Veteran's and offered help with transportation for anyone that needed it.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, grandson Isaiah Hernandez and numerous brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his sons Lupe Hernandez Jr. of Artesia, Ted Hernandez of Rio Rancho, NM and Chris Armenta of Carlsbad, NM; daughters Aurora Lola Chavarria of Artesia, Marcella Hernandez of Artesia and Ernestine Yslas of Carlsbad, NM; brother Tommy Manuel Hernandez of Artesia; sister Socorro Lulie Hernandez of Artesia; 14 grandchildren Ishmael Ray Chavarria, Andrew Chavarria, Ranae Vasquez, Candyce Vasquez, Aaron Vasquez, John Hernandez, Monica Hernandez, Amy Yslas, Jessica Yslas, Peggy A. Rodriguez, Domenica Arminta, Anthony Dominguez, Julie Williams and Ashley Jackson; 20 great-grandchildren.
