Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, December 3, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Luis S. Herrera, 407 W. Cleveland Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Herrera, 82, died Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Lovelace Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Fr. Paul Murtagh SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. A rosary is also scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Jesus Martinez, Jr., Elias Herrera, Jr., Tony Garcia, Paul Herrera, Christopher Olivas, and Adrian Olivas. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Herrera, Dakota Herrera, Jacob Olivas, Jesse Acosta, Manuel Huerta, III, Robert Silvas, and all nieces and nephews. Mr. Herrera was born October 10, 1927 in Adobes, Texas; the son of Natividad Herrera and Carmen Sandoval Herrera. He came to Artesia in 1946 from Texas. On April 25, 1954 he was married to Geneva Calderon in Artesia. She preceded him in death Dec. 28, 1980. He was also preceded in death by his parents; by brothers Samuel Herrera, Fred Herrera, Amador Herrera and Elias Herrera; and by sisters Josefa Garcia, Paula Martinez and Eufrasia Garcia. He was a truck driver for Collier Energy; retiring in 1992. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and enjoyed gardening and working on cars. Survivors include a son Joe Henry Wolf Herrera of Highland, Mich.; a daughter Pat Olivas and husband Milo of Artesia; grandchildren Joey Herrera of Michigan, Paul Herrera of Chicago, Ill., Dakota Herrera of Michigan, Chris Olivas of Los Lunas, N.M., Adrian Olivas of Los Lunas, and Jacob Olivas of Artesia; and great-grandchildren Melina Olivas and Caiya Olivas both of Los Lunas.
