Lucy Douglass

No services are planned for Lucy Mae Douglass of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Douglass, 99, died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at Heartland Nursing Center in Artesia.

Cremation is under the direction of Terpening Son Mortuary.

Mrs. Douglass was born January 19, 1911 in Asher, Oklahoma the daughter of Peter P. Berry and Cora Ann Everett Berry.

She came to Artesia in 1937 from Oklahoma. In April 1953 she was married to W.L. Douglass in Artesia. They moved to Arizona later that year and then returned to Artesia in 1978. He preceded her in death Nov. 3, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her parents son Sherman Bramblett brothers Harlan G. Berry, and
Jess Berry sisters Blanche Magnusson, and Maggie Berry.

Lucy worked many jobs in her career including running a boarding house here in Artesia, being a ticket taker at the Ocotillo Theatre, and a salesclerk in jewelry stores, to mention a few. She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her nieces Karen Colwell and husband Corky of Monahans, Texas, and Kim Burns and husband Wayne of Artesia nephews Larry Magnusson and wife Barbara of New Braunfels, Texas, Jerry Berry and wife Sherry of Hobbs, N.M., and Lynn Berry of Artesia and numerous great nieces and nephews.
