Lucretia Akins

Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, at Twin Oaks Memorial Park for Lucretia Jackson Akins, 505 S. 14th Street, Artesia, New Mexico. PMrs. Akins, 92, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. PRev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. PMrs. Akins was born December 29, 1913 in Coke County, Texas; the daughter of John Wells Jackson and Susan Ava Castleberry Jackson. POn Oct. 9, 1934 she was married to George H. Akins in Artesia. She was a lifelong resident of Artesia. He preceded her in death Oct. 13, 1996. PShe was a Grocery clerk and homemaker. She was a member of Eastern Star, and First Baptist Church. PShe was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, J.D. Jackson, and Leo Jackson, son Gary Akins, grandson Ricky Akins, and a great-grandson Quinton Starkey.
Survivors include daughter JoAnn Starkey and husband Rayford of Artesia; special daughter Laura Fanning and husband Martin of Artesia; grandchildren Barbara Gwynne and husband Gary of Artesia, Mike Akins of Artesia, Lea Akins of Dallas, Texas, Steven Starkey and wife Cindey of Artesia, Johnny Starkey and wife Cindi of Albuquerque, N.M., and Susan Fanning and husband Jed of Albuquerque; 12 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
