Services are scheduled at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 19 at Terpening Son Mortuary for Lucille A. Ray, 302 N. Fourth St., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Ray, 91, died Monday, September 16, 2002 in Roswell, New Mexico. Rev. J. Mark Robinson will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons Rocky Ray, Luke Ray, Randy Taylor, Allen Melton, Chris Sneed, Josh Sneed, Cody Taylor, Christopher Ray, Dustin Ray, Allen Dale Melton, Luke Adam Ray, Joseph Ray, Hunter Ray and Michael Kirk. Mrs. Ray was born March 10, 1911 in High Rolls, New Mexico; the daughter of William Newton Waldrip and Bettie Nelson Waldrip. She was Salutatorian of her graduating class in Lake Arthur, N.M. On February 17, 1932 she was married to Luke Adam Ray in Roswell. Her husband preceded her in death August 18, 1964. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son Larry Ray on February 3, 1999; sisters Helen Knight, Gladys Golden and Ruby Norris; and by a brother W. H. Waldrip. She was a housewife and member of West Main Baptist Church and had been active at the Artesia Senior Center. Survivors include a daughter Betty Jane Taylor and husband Ray of Artesia; a daughter-in-law Billie Ray of Roswell; a sister Bessie Leaf of Artesia; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
