Louise Daugherty

June 9, 1922 — December 2, 2012

Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 at Terpening Son Chapel for Della Louise Lee Daugherty of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mrs. Daugherty, 90, died Sunday, December 2, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.

Pastor Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be deacons from the First Baptist Church. Honorary pallbearer is Cecil Laman, a very dear friend.

Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Louise was born in Sweetwater, Texas the daughter of Russell P. Lee and Della Bynum Lee. The family moved to Hope, N.M. in 1933 from Ohio and later moved to CottonwoodArtesia area in 1949. She was a long time Artesia resident.

She was a bookkeeper at several local businesses until she retired in February of 1991. Louise was a member of the First Baptist Church, a Charter member of the Desk and Derrick club serving as the first treasurer and later as president. After retirement, she volunteered for many activities including Artesia Meal Site, First Baptist Church gym, Pecos Valley Baptist Association, Income Tax Assistance, Secretary of the local AARP, and Vice President for the Eddy County Project Advisory Council.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Ruffus Lee.

Survivors include daughters Linda Newell and husband Hal of Kingsland, Texas, and Shirley Thiel and husband Jerry of Roswell, N.M. brother Gen Lee and wife JoAnn of San Angelo, Texas niece Deborah Lee of Katy, Texas sisterinlaw Imogene Lee of Roswell grandchildren Eric Newell of San Antonio, Texas, Jana Miller of Cibolo, Texas, Jason Thiel of Maplewood, MN, and Chris Thiel of Artesia greatgrandchildren Kylie Miller, Michael Miller, and Cody Miller and numerous cousins.
