Services are scheduled at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 6 at First Christian Church in Artesia for former longtime Artesia resident Loneta Grace Curtis of Plano, Texas. Mrs. Curtis, 92, died Sunday, November 30, 2003 in Plano. Rev. Gerald Harper will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park in Artesia. Pallbearers will be grandsons Steve Garretson, Mark Garretson, and family friends Pablo Salsberry, Bill McCaw, Ralph Nix, and Clarence Connor. Mrs. Curtis was born October 31, 1911 in Collingsworth County, Texas; the daughter of William Emmitt Smith and Stacy Elizabeth Blandford Smith. On January 3, 1932 she was married to Jerry Stephens Curtis in Grandfield, Okla. They came to Artesia in 1948 from Roswell, N.M after residing in Texas and Oklahoma. Her husband preceded her in death February 24, 1980. Mrs. Curtis moved to Plano in 2003. She was a former public school teacher and member of First Christian Church in Artesia. Survivors include her daughter Sara Garretson of Plano; grandsons Steve Garretson and Mark Garretson both of Fort Worth, Texas; and great-grandchildren Bryan and Brittany Garretson of Gainesville, Texas.
