Services are scheduled at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, January 12, , at Terpening Son Chapel for Lois O'Brien, Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. O'Brien, 89, died Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Peggy White will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jerry Butts, Steve Cockrum, Craig Cockrum, Gordon Allen, Gerald Herrera, Zach Wallace and Jonathon Herrera. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 am. Friday. Mrs. O'Brien was born April 30, 1918 in McAlester, Oklahoma; the daughter of Jess Rooker and Lula Ford Rooker. On June 7, 1940 she was married to John O'Brien in Carlsbad, N.M. She was a longtime area resident. He preceded her in death Jan. 18, 1970. She was a property manager in Ruidoso for many years. She was a member of Cornerstone Fellowship, and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and a son-in-law Gordon Slug Allen. Survivors include daughters Janice Allen of Kingsville, Texas, Cheryl Butts and husband Jerry of Artesia, and Virginia Cockrum and husband Steve of Artesia; brothers George Rooker of Modesto, Calif., Jay Rooker of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Donald Rooker of Mountain Home; sister Marie Shive of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren Stacy Wallace of Artesia, Craig Cockrum of Bridgeport, Texas, Amy Herrera of Artesia, and Gordon Allen of Corpus Christi, Texas; 11 great-grandchildren.
