Lois Clayton

January 16, 1917 — December 14, 2004

Life long resident of Artesia, Lois Fanning Clayton passed away December 14, 2004 at 2:00am at the Landsun Nursing Home in Carlsbad where she had resided for a short period of time. Mrs. Clayton was born January 16, 1917 in Dayton New Mexico. Her family homesteaded the area in the 1800s and were prominent ranchers and farmers in the Pecos Valley. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Leon J. Clayton, her father and mother, John H. and Mabel Fanning, one brother, Donald Fanning. She is survived by two sons, John Jack Nan Ell Clayton of Carlsbad and Leon Jay Ginny Clayton, Jr. of Gold Canyon AZ and one daughter Barbara Kay Clayton Herschel Scott of Seattle WA. Lois is also survived by 7 Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, and 5 Great Great Grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia on Friday, December 17th at 2:00pm. In Lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice is requested by the family.
