A memorial celebration is scheduled at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 12 at Terpening amp; Son Chapel for Letha Mae Johnson Atkins, former resident of Artesia.
Letha Atkins, 84, died on Feb. 15, 2005 in Post, Texas.
Born Feb. 15, 1921 in Boring, Ore., she married Phillip Neil Yankee Atkins on Sept. 23, 1943. They moved to Artesia in the fall of 1961 with their three teenage children.
PLetha Atkins worked as head librarian for the Artesia Public Library and her husband, Yankee was a postman. Both were known figures in the Artesia community. PShe is survived by two sons, Tommy Neil and his wife Verna of Eudora, Kan., their three sons and a daughter and their spouses, and their five children, and C. P. Atkins and his wife Rose of Phoenix, Ariz.; and their two sons and two daughters, along with their spouses and three grandchildren; a sister, Mine Campbell of Boring, Ore., her daughter Dena, a great-niece and great-great nephew; a brother, Billy Don Johnson and his wife Bert of Aztec, N.M. and their children; and a sister-in-law, June Dale Johnson of Hobbs, N.M. and her two sons, Kenny of Hobbs, and Tom of Grants, N.M.
Letha Mae Atkins is preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Patricia, and two brothers.
