Leonel Zapata

Services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Del Rio, Texas for Leonel R. Zapata of Artesia, New Mexico. Burial will be at San Felipe Cemetery in Del Rio. No local visitation is planned. Mr. Zapata, 57, died Saturday, October 2, 2004 in Artesia. He was born March 2, 1947 in Del Rio; the son of Genaro Zapata and Concepcion Rocha Zapata. He was a graduate of San Felipe High School and Sul Ross State University. On March 28, 1972 he was married to Amelia Ortiz in Del Rio. He came to Artesia in 1996 from Brunswick, Georgia. He had served in the United States Army and was a supervisor and firearms instructor with the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Artesia. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife Amelia Zapata of the family home; a son Raul L. Zapata of Artesia; a daughter Myda Zapata of Brunswick, Georgia; sisters Leticia Reyes and Jovita Z. Flores both of San Antonio, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
