Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, at Midway Baptist Church in Dexter, N.M. for Leo V. Pennington of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Pennington, 64, died Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Artesia General Hospital.

Matthew Skariah will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Curtis Pennington, Dustin Pennington, Tony Pennington, Chad Fulton, Tony Pennington, Jr., and Milton Pennington, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Williams, Henry Grimm, Gene Grimm, Robert Grimm, Steve Bertin, Cruz Torres, Deeg Becker, and Gary Day.

Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Tuesday beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Leo was born July 29, 1949 in Artesia, New Mexico the son of L.V. Pennington and Mildred Standard Pennington. He was a lifelong Artesia resident.

On Sept. 7, 1968 he was married to Cathy Mauldin in Artesia.

Leo was a retired pastor and member of Midway Baptist Church where he loved to spread the gospel. He also retired from Amoco Production Company where he worked as a gang foreman. He was a member of N.M. Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, Pecos Valley Baptist Association Disaster Relief, and an avid outdoorsman including hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his father and a son Eldon Pennington.

Survivors include his wife Cathy Pennington of the family home son Curtis Pennington and wife Leona of Artesia mother Mildred Pennington of Carlsbad, N.M. brothers Milton Pennington of Artesia and Tony Pennington, Sr. of Artesia sisters Brenda Frederick, Carolyn Menzdorf, and Becky Pennington all of Carlsbad 6 grandchildren Chance Pennington, Dustey McCormick, Dustin Pennington, Tisha McCormick, Cydney Pennington, and Branda Bartlett 7 greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leo was a good man, very forgiving, and a trusted friend.
