Lenora Mcman

August 31, 1911 — February 3, 2007

Lenora Ora Jordan McMan entered eternal life on Saturday, February 03, 2007 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center in Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. McMan was born August 31, 1911, to Joseph Newton Jordan and Katie Elizabeth Crain Jordan at their farm in the Pine Crest community near Fordyce, Arkansas. She attended No. 10 Pine Crest Rural Special School and graduated from Fordyce High School where she lettered in basketball, playing on the lady Redbug team. She was married twice: to Loyed Adolph Langley, the father of her two children, in 1934, and to Samuel Colon McMan in 1945. Several years after her marriage to Mr. McMan, the family moved from Fordyce to Snyder, Texas, then to Roswell, New Mexico, searching for a drier, healthier climate for her husband. He died in 1977, and she later moved to Artesia to live with her daughter, Mary, and her family. Mrs. McMan enjoyed cooking and worked in food preparation for many years. She retired at age 76 from the Roswell Goddard High School Cafeteria after 28 years of service there. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and their friends. She also enjoyed reading especially her Bible, sewing, and crocheting; and she created many lovely Afghans, quilts, sweaters, and other articles for her family and friends. Gardening was another of her hobbies; and her garden produce, as well as her homemade articles earned her many blue ribbons at the county fair each year. She was awarded the coveted title of Eddy County gardener of the year in 1993 at the age of almost 82. Mrs. McMan was a Baptist and a founding member of the Pine Crest Missionary Baptist Church, built on land donated by her parents, near Fordyce, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Colon McMan; a grandson, Danny Ray Conn; her parents; her sisters, Nona Jordan Adair and Alma and Katie Margaret Jordan; and her brothers, Edward, Thomas, John, and Billie Joe Jordan. Her survivors include: two daughters, Joan Wooten of Silver City, New Mexico Mary Williams and husband Gary of Artesia, six grandchildren, Debi Schmidt of Prescott, Arizona, Linda Gilland of Crawfordville, Florida, Bobbie Ann Wooten of Silver City, Sam Conn of Odessa, Texas, Penny Youtsey of Artesia, Gary Wayne Williams of Artesia, nine great-grandchildren, Mike Schmidt, Aryn Lambson, Mikiah Holloway, Ashley Wooten, Azriel Rodriguez, Matt and Zachary Conn, and Chelsea and Chandler Youtsey, two great-great-grandchildren, Devaughn Wooten and Otis Lambson. And many special nieces and nephews. Graveside services for Mrs. McMan will be held on Monday, February 5, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Memory Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Roswell, with Rev. Jason Kraft of West Main Baptist Church of Artesia, will be officiating.
