Lela Dean

Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, at First United Methodist Churchfor Lela Dean, Artesia, New Mexico. PMrs. Dean, 80, died Sunday, February 25, 2007 at her home. PRev. Paul Dean Duerksen and Rev. Bill Johnston will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Johnston, Cody Johnston, Randy Lewellen, Scott Lewellen, Jerry Ives, and Kaleb Ives. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry and Martha Lewellen, Bob and Marian Mayhaul, Doris Edwards, Ruth Eberle, and Darlene Dodds. PVisitation at Terpening amp; Son Mortuary will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday. PLela was born October 8, 1926 in Plainview, Texas; the daughter of Jim Griffin and Telia Hoover Griffin. POn October 8, 1943 she was married to Raymond L. Dean in Lubbock, Texas. They came to Artesia in 1960 from Levelland, Texas. Her husband preceded her in death April 5, 1996. She was also preceded in death by a son Jimmy Dean in 1963. PShe was school secretary at Hermosa Elementary School from 1966 to 1982 and was an active member of First United Methodist Church. Lela loved to quilt and crochet and attended the Senior Citizens Center where she enjoyed ceramics and crafts. PSurvivors include a daughter Janice Johnston and husband Bill of Artesia; sisters Billie Evans of Lamoni, Iowa, Cleta Van Meter of McAdoo, Texas, Neta Hickman of McAdoo, Modene Scott of Shamrock, Texas, Ann Grimes of Lubbock, and June Sawyer of Odessa, Texas; and brothers Leo Griffin of Spur, Texas and Bobby Griffin of Shamrock. PAlso surviving are grandchildren Ryan Johnston and wife Joyce of Nacogdoches, Texas, Cody Johnston of Durango, Colo., and Amy Pameticky and husband Todd of Ft. Bliss, Texas; and great-grandchildren Kylee and Kassi Pameticky of Ft. Bliss, and Mae and Zach Johnston of Nacogdoches.
