Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 24, at Hermosa Drive Church of Christ for L.C. Red Mayberry, 1203 W. Hermosa Drive, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Mayberry, 87, died Friday, August 21, 2009 at his home. Michael Joiner will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews Don Mayberry, Ron Mayberry, Dave King, Bob Evan Mayberry, Danny Ford, and Landon Mayberry. Honorary pallbearers will be Catlin Mayberry, Jeff Mayberry, Craig Mayberry and Scott Ford. Visitation at Terpening Son Mortuary will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Mayberry was born January 14, 1922 in Hillsboro, Texas; the son of Landon Crawford Mayberry and LuAnna Jane Bolton Mayberry. On Dec. 23, 1975 he was married to Delores Mayrhofen in Artesia. He was a longtime area resident. He served in the United States Army during World War II and participated in the invasion of Normandy on D Day. He was a foreman for C.V.E. He was a member of Hermosa Drive Church of Christ and lifetime member of the V.F.W. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Dolly Mayberry, brothers Melvin Mayberry and Herman Mayberry, a sister Elora King. Survivors include his wife Delores Mayberry of the family home; step-daughter Mary Emily Curry and husband Leroy of Artesia; step-son Mark S. Felton and Eileen of Plano, Texas; brothers Thurman Mayberry and wife Leona of Hagerman, N.M., and Bob Mayberry and wife JoAnn of Artesia; sister Jane Ford and husband Joe of Bayfield, Colorado; 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Mexico Christian Children's Home 1356 NM 236 Portales, New Mexico 88130.
