Laverne Thompson

Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 26, at First Baptist Church for LaVerne Thompson, Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Thompson, 72, died Tuesday, January 24, 2006 at her home. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Paul Hudson, Bones Newsome, Jack Butler, Zane Hodges, Lloyd Polk, and Gene Sandlin. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Mrs. Thompson was born February 9, 1933 in Hagerman, New Mexico; the daughter of Gaylord Anderson and Lillian BlandAnderson. On July 18, 1950 she was married to Marvin Thompson in Artesia. She was a lifelong area resident. She was a Dietician at the Artesia Good Samaritan Center for 25 years until her retirement in 1997. She was a member of First Baptist Church, past member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she had held all offices, past member of Rebekahs. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook especially her pies, she loved to camp, and was a devoted wife of 55 years, loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents and by a brother. Survivors include her husband Marvin Thompson of the family home; son Stephen Thompson and wife Pandi of Artesia;, daughters Sherry Knoche and husband Dr. Dennis Knoche of Roswell, N.M., and Sue Glenn and husband Bill Glenn of Roswell; brothers Glen Anderson of Tularosa, N.M., Ross Anderson of Lovington, N.M., and Gary Anderson of Artesia; sister Angela Bowen of El Paso, Texas; grandchildren Heather Ruisard and husband Dave of Houston, Texas; Dr. Ryan Knoche and wife Dr. Keely Knoche of Colorado Springs, Colo., Melanie Glenn of Roswell, Kyle Glenn of Roswell, Amanda Thompson of Liberty City, Texas, and Seath Thompson of Artesia; great-grandchild Katherine Ruisard of Houston. Memorial contributions may be made to the Artesia Good Samaritan Center.
