Larry Evans

June 19, 1933 — April 19, 2016

Larry Evans was born in Snyder, Texas on June 19, 1933 to B. F. Evans and Laura Page Evans Wells. The family moved to the Weed area in 1938 and lived in and around the area for most of his young years. He lived with, and worked for, Ross and Mable Hooten for two years at Mayhill, N.M.

His school years were, for the most part, at Weed and Cloudcroft, where he received a high school education. Larry drove a delivery truck for Burgetts Floral for three years. He also worked in the logwoods and on road jobs for a while.

He and Earlene Black were married in 1953. They later moved to Grants, N.M. where he worked in the uranium mines for 10 years. They moved to Grayson, L.A. and were there for 30 years where he worked as a mechanic and for a short time, in the oilfield.

Larry and Earlene, with grandson, David Hurst, moved back to Hope, N.M. in 1999. Earlene passed away on June 19, 2003.

He was a member of Trinity Temple Assembly of God in Artesia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son David Orville Evans, one grandson Larry Glenn Evans and a brother Leon Evans.

Surviving children are: Perry Earl Evans and wife Debbie of Artesia, N.M. and Rita Yvonne Evans and her three sons of Columbia, L.A. Also surviving are sister Happy Doris Bell and husband Dalton of Artesia; brothers Gilbert Evans and wife Penny of Tularosa, N.M., Mickey Evans and wife Carolyn of Poolville, TX; sisters Sally Stade and husband Robert of Carlsbad, and Jane E. Lewis and husband Paul of Smyer, TX.

Larry spent many hours playing his guitar and singing at Rest Homes for the elderly. He fondly remembers his Mother singing old songs as she worked at home caring for her children.

It was Larry's request to be cremated and ashes placed by his Mother in the Weed, N.M. cemetery.
