Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 23, at First Baptist Church for Larry B. Davis, 1406 W. Hermosa Dr., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Davis, 82, died Friday, November 20, 2009 at his home. Rev. Rick Sullivan will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wesley Davis, Mike Herrington, Richard Salmon. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Lewis, Johnny Ellis, Gene McCaskill Walter Hicks, Bill Jarrett, Smokey Adamson, Gene Cook. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday Mr. Davis was born March 26, 1927 in San Angelo, Texas; the son of Larry Marr Davis and Bertha Marie Olsen Davis. On Nov. 29, 1946 he was married to Dorothy Gardner in San Angelo, Texas. He came to Artesia in 1966 from Texon, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an operator for Indian Basin Gas Plant. He retired in June 1985. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Big Lake Gun Club, taught lapidary at the Senior Center, Board member for Artesia Senior Center, played bridge, loved to fish, hunt, cut and polish rocks, woodworking, taught himself to sew, taught himself to use the computer, learned to speak German, he was a man of many hobbies and a student of life. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Dorothy Davis of the family home; son Larry Dale Davis of Artesia; daughter Cherry Lynn Blevins of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; brother Jack Davis of El Paso, Texas; 6 grandchildren Wesley D. Davis of Artesia, Christy Herrington of Roswell, N.M., Pam Johnson of Moore, Oklahoma, Amber Martinez of Artesia, Marie Salmon of Artesia, and Josh Davis of Carlsbad, N.M.; 14 great-grandchildren.
