Graveside services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, at Woodbine Cemetery for Kenneth D. Eaker of Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Eaker, 70, died Friday, October 9, 2009 at Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Robert Bowles will officiate at the services. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends from the Artesia Fun Bunch Car Club. Mr. Eaker was born January 17, 1939 in Riverside, California; the son of Price D. Eaker and Lucille Bailey Eaker. On June 21, 1964 he was married to Janice Loraine Chase in Sepulveda, California. He came to Artesia in 1976 from California and also lived in Dexter and Roswell. She preceded him in death September22, 1981. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son Kevin Eaker; and a sister Ida Eaker. Kenneth was a truck driver and also worked for a time with the post office. He was a member of the Eastside Church of Christ in Dexter, and the Artesia Fun Bunch Car Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, a painter, and played guitar and drums and sang with a band called The Ignitors. Survivors include his daughters Melodee Smith and husband David of Cypress, Texas, and Wendy Gessner and husband Ed of Albuquerque; son Matthew Eaker and wife Annette of Dexter; grandchildren Ashlee, Amber and Aaron Smith, Ana, Christian, and Logan Eaker, Eddie, Katie, and Andy Gessner.
