Katherine "Katie" Louise Fierro
April 28, 1949 - February 21, 2017
67 years of a meaningful and beautiful life. The oldest of
three children, Katie is preceded in death by her parents;
Guadalupe "Lupe" and Frank Fierro, and her brother, Ben.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Jean Contreraz (Mike).
Niece, Cheri (Ron); niece, Christina; nephew, Michael
(Amanda); niece, Remmy; nephew, Andres; Uncle Bricky
and many loving cousins.
She attended and graduated in 1967 from Artesia High
School, receiving many academics honors and scholarships.
She played the flute and piccolo in the Artesia Marching
Band, and was admired by family and friends for her
devotion to music.
Katie attended ENMU from 1967 to 1969 where she
worked in the cafeteria on campus at Eastern New
Mexico University while she earned her Bachelor
of Arts Degree in Business.
At New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M.,
Katie earned her 2nd Degree, Bachelor of Science
in Radiology while working as a campus director.
Katie worked full time at Mountain Bell Telephone and
Telegraph Company for over 27 years, in Denver, Colo.
She saw many changes with the telephone company and
was influential establishing the touch tone telephone
dialing equipment. During this time she also worked
as a bartender for the revolving restaurant, near
"Mile High Stadium".
Katie then became an independent computer consultant
for a private company, traveling from one coast to another.
She would call and say," oh-this week I am in Florida, then
will travel to California, next month." She enjoyed traveling
not only with business, but especially with family. This is
why many family members travel the United States and
other islands. Katie encouraged us to explore and have fun.
1995 brought Katie to work in the office of Senator Domenici,
of New Mexico, in Washington, D.C. There she used her
business and management skills, for a successful term. She also
arranged to introduce her cousin to a co-worker that resulted
in matrimony.
Her next career took her to Indianapolis working as a data
tech. She enjoyed this job, because it was where we
could enjoy family visits with her.
Katie moved home to Artesia in 2003, to care for her
Mother, Lupe until her passing that year. She continued
her journey in education working as a Spanish teacher for
Artesia High School and teaching FLETC recruits,
the Spanish language. During her free time, she volunteered
at various organization such as "Grandma's House."
2009 brought Katie to Denver, Colorado to be with her
Great-Niece's, Essynce, Sydney, and Enyiah, the loves of her
life.
As a family we enjoyed many birthdays, special holidays
and most of all, being together. What made this special was
despite her health condition, the last year's of her life, Katie
was always with us and continued to be the generous Aunt
and Sister that we loved and will hold close in our hearts.
Katie, thank you for all the Blessings you brought into
each of our individual lives.
Katie will be missed by many family and friends,
but will be forever in our hearts.
We are thankful for the support and care we received
these last few years and will be forever grateful to
