Memorial services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 2, at Terpening Son Mortuary Chapel for June Mayre McQuay, Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. McQuay, 88, died Sunday, September 29, 2002 at her home. Rev. Jerod Walker will officiate at the services. Burial will be at Twin Oaks Memorial Park following cremation. Honorary pallbearers will be Cooper Henderson, Jeff Bowman, Royce Pearson, Sammy Herrera and Mike Phipps. Mrs. McQuay was born June 29, 1914 in Erick, Oklahoma; the daughter of James T. Williams and Aimee Palmer Williams. She lived in Oklahoma and Texas before coming to Artesia in 1954. On June 1, 1956 she was married to Bob McQuay in Roswell, N.M. He preceded her in death April 12, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two previous husbands; and by a sister Judy Ellinger. She was a retired public school teacher; teaching in Artesia Schools for 21 years; and was member of Valley Christian Church; Artesia Association of Retired Teachers; and N.M. Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include a son John Ashworth and wife Delores of Alexandria, Virginia; daughters Betty Vogelsang and husband Fred of Monrovia, Calif. and Janet Grittini of Artesia and her husband Aldo Grittini of Las Vegas, Nev.; a step-son Bud McQuay of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter-in-law Carolyn McQuay Edwards of Longview, Texas; a sister Jodie Azzariti of Kodak, Tenn.; and four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family sugests memorial contributions be made to Valley Christian Church - 2001 W. Grand - Artesia, NM 88210 or Vista Hospice Care Foundation - 611 N. Canal - Carlsbad, NM 88220.
