Juanita Mahaffey

Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 19, at Terpening Son Chapel for Juanita Walters Mahaffey, 609 W. Missouri Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Mahaffey, 92, died Friday, October 16, 2009 at her home. J.T. Ross and Jim Barnett will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Don Smith, Benny Ray James , Alton Munson, Denny Gumfory, Cicero Holland and Roy Puckett. Honorary pallbearers will be all her nephews and grand-nephews. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Mahaffey was born September 24, 1917 in Avis, New Mexico; the daughter of Martin Christian Munson and Cora May Hammond Munson. She was a lifelong area resident. On June 15, 1935 she was married to Mark Walters in Roswell, N.M. He preceded in death on Sept. 17, 1966. On March 24, 1970 she was married to Oran Mahaffey in Artesia. He preceded her in death Dec. 28, 2002. She was a housewife and member of the Church of Christ, and Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ibby, Daisy, and May, brothers George, Cecil, Leonard, Artis and Arleigh. Survivors include son Tillman Walters and wife Kathy of Artesia; grandchildren Brent Patterson, Mark Walters, Bob Walters, Christy Walters, and Amy Russell; great-grandchildren Brent Patterson, Amy Patterson and Nevaeh Patterson; numerous nieces and nephews.
