Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lake Arthur, N.M. for Juana O. Cortez Salcido of Lake Arthur.
Mrs. Salcido, 93, died Sunday, December 15, 2013 at St. Anthonys Healthcare in Clovis, New Mexico.
Fr. Paul Murtagh, SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Manuel Salcido, Jr., Santiago Jimmy Salcido, Valentin Palomares, Daniel Salcido, Manuel Salcido III, and Hector Salcido.
Visitation will be at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Tuesday beginning at 2:00 p.m. A rosary will be at church Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
Juana was born May 27, 1920 in Presidio, Texas the daughter of Gregorio Cortez and Yldefonsa Ornales Cortez. She came to Lake Arthur in 1957 from Texas.
On January 21, 1957 she was married to Manuel Mendoza Salcido in Carlsbad, N.M. He preceded her in death February 26, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents sisters Jesus Lopez, Maria Bejarano, Angela Marquez, Ramona Arenivas, and Paula Esqueda and brothers Gregorio Cortez, and Hector Cortez.
Juana was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she served and attended for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Guadalupana Society and Daughters of Mary in Presidio, Texas.
Survivors include her sons Manuel Salcido of Lake Arthur, and Santiago Salcido of Hagerman, N.M. daughters Rosa Salcido and Adelina Salcido both of Lake Arthur brothers Adolfo Cortez and Jose Cortez both of Lubbock, Texas 20 grandchildren and 23 greatgranchildren.
