Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 12, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Juana Balencia of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Balencia, 95, died Thursday, February 8, 2018 at San Pedro Nursing Facility in Artesia.
Fr. V.J. will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. A rosary will be recited Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace.
Juana was born in Candelaria, Texas on December 27, 1922 to Martin Hernandez and Apolonia (Solis) Hernandez. She was a long-time Artesia resident.
On November 27, 1939 she was married to Elias Balencia in Artesia. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1968. She was also preceded in death by her parents; children Angelita, Frederico, Flora, Ramon and Elias; siblings Jose, Pedro, Paz, Maria, Esperidion, Maria Jesus, and Jesus; and grandchildren Danny Rick, Melissa, and Carlos.
Juana was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She was a Crusillista and enjoyed gardening and growing her roses, sewing, and was an excellent cook. Her love in life was getting to be with her family and taking care of them.
Survivors include her daughters Lupe Martinez and husband Roman of Alamogordo, N.M., Mary Salas of Artesia, Mary Helen Sosa and husband Oscar of Artesia, and Vicky Dominguez of Ruidoso, N.M.; son Domingo Balencia and wife Ruby of Artesia; sister Socorro Medina; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
