Josephine Leyba

Services are scheduled at 9:30 A.M. Friday, January 21, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Josephine Leyba, Artesia, New Mexico. Mrs. Leyba, 88, died Tuesday, January 18, 2005 in Artesia. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Garcia, Fabian Ornelas, Jeremy Ramirez, Nathan Ramirez, Steve Saiz, Michael Leyba, and Manuel Salcido. A vigil service is also planned for 6:30 P.M. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace. Visitation at Terpening Son Mortuary will begin at 10:00 A.M. Thursday. Mrs. Leyba was born July 21, 1916 in Dayton, New Mexico; the daughter of Jose Jimenez and Georgia Orona Jimenez. On October 3, 1943 she was married to Eusebio G. Leyba in Carlsbad, N.M. She came to Artesia in 1943 from the Carlsbad area. Her husband preceded her in death March 27, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two daughters; one son; eight sisters; and one brother. She was a homemaker; a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church; and was a Grandparent Volunteer at Head Start. Survivors include sons Adolfo Leyba of Artesia and David Leyba of Rolla, Missouri; daughters Manuela Saiz of Carlsbad and Lucy Leyba of Artesia; a sister Lucinda Catano of Farmington, N.M.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
