Services are scheduled at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Jose Vasquez, Jr. of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Vasquez, 70, died Friday, August 8, 2014 at his home.
Fr. Martin Cornejo O.F.M. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mikkael Vasquez, Paul Ontiveros, Ismael Jimenez, Julio Jimenez, Jr., Mando Soto, and Steven Ontiveros.
Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Tuesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Jose was born March 9, 1944 in Marfa, Texas the son of Jose Vasquez and Jesusita Ramirez Vasquez.
Jose served his country in the United States Air Force.
He first married Emma Echerievel in Santa Clara, N.M. He came to Artesia in 1982 from Santa Clara. Then on August 5, 2005 he was married to Mary Ontiveros in Carlsbad, N.M.
He was a truck driver and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. He was a former member of the Artesia Bulldog Quarterback Club and an avid Dallas Cowboys fan of which he loved to collect Cowboys memorabilia. Jose also enjoyed being a handyman around the house and could fix anything he needed to.
Jose was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Julie Vasquez.
Survivors include his wife Mary Vasquez of the family home son Jose Vasquez and wife Yvette of Hobbs, N.M. daughter Judy Vasquez of Ft. Worth, Texas stepsons Dwight Ontiveros and wife Jennifer of Artesia, and Steven Ontiveros and wife Christina of Lovington, N.M. grandchildren Mikkael Vasquez of Ft. Worth Texas who he helped raise, Alyse Parraz of Hobbs, Kali Vasquez of Hobbs, and Trinity Vasquez of Hobbs 5 stepgrandchildren and sisters Elia Jimenez and husband Julio of Santa Clara, Mary McCormack and husband Joe of Carlsbad, and Senaida Garcia of Carlsbad.
