Jose Ponce

Mass of Christian burial is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 1, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Jose M. Ponce of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Ponce, 82, died Thursday July 27, 2017 at San Pedro Nursing Facility in Artesia.

Fr. Jorge Vargas will officiate at the services with burial to follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Anaya, Joe Sillas, Javyn Sillas, Luis Gabaldon, Damian Ochoa, and Davian Ochoa.

A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Tuesday at 2:30 p.m.

Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary Monday from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Jose was born on April 9, 1935 in Shafter, Texas to Pablo Ponce and Francisca (Martinez) Ponce. He was a longtime Artesia resident.

In October of 1981 Jose was married to Manuela Tevarez in Artesia. She preceded him in death on May 3, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Jose was an assembly man for TMC and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, painting, and playing bingo along with spending time with his family.

Survivors incluce his daughters Hope Duckworth of Marlow, LA and Rebecca Peterson of LaGrange, Texas; son Orlando Ponce of Snyder, Texas; sisters Vivian Ochoa and Eloisa Gabaldon-Peyo both of Artesia; brother Paul Ponce, Jr. of Roswell, N.M.; and 21 grandchildren.
