Services are scheduled at 9:30 AM. Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Our Lady of Grace Church for Jose Joe Lara Sr., 703 N. Roselawn Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Lara, 75, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at the V.A. Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Fr. Paul Murtagh SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Paul Lugo, Connie Valverde, Joseph Anthony Serrano, Rodney Lara, John Salgado, and Paul Salgado. A rosary is also scheduled for 6:30 pm Tuesday at Our Lady of Grace Church. Mr. Lara was born April 20, 1930 in Carlsbad, New Mexico; the son of Carlos Lara and Candelaria Cortez Lara. On June 24, 1961 he was married to Maria Rosa Tellez in Artesia. He was a longtime Artesia resident. She preceded him in death June 7, 2001. He served in the Army during Korea. He was a Janitor for the Artesia Public Schools and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Survivors include sons Jose Lara Jr. and wife Yvonne of Albuquerque, and David Lara and wife Cynthia of Albuquerque; daughters Anna Maria Lara of Artesia, and Maria Alicia Rivera and husband Albert Jr. of Bernalillo, N.M.; brother Crespin Lara of El Paso, Texas; sister Anita Gonzalez of Albuquerque; and extended family including numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
