Jose Chavarria

Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 29, at Trinity Temple Assembly for Jose Guadalupe Chavarria of Lake Arthur, New Mexico.

Mr. Chavarria, 97, died Saturday, November 23, 2013 at his home.

Pastor Alfred Carrera will officiate at the services with burial at the Lake Arthur Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Freddie Rivera, Jr., Tony Rivera, Adrian Rivera, Alex Chavarria, Jessie Lucio Segura, Fabian Chavarria, Anthony Rivera, Reuben Rivera, and Matthew Rivera. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and greatgreatgrandchildren.

Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Jose was born April 23, 1916 in Ruidosa, Texas the son of Jose Chavarria and Balbina Leyba Chavarria. He came to Lake Arthur in 1947 from Mexico.

On April 19, 1947 he was married to Piedad Palomares in Cerro Alto, Mexico. Through 66 years they remained by each others side and their love was everlasting.

Jose was a farm laborer and a member of Assembly of God Church in Lake Arthur where he loved to sing and worship.

He was preceded in death by his parents sisters Adela, Epolita, and Petra and son Joe Chavarria.

Survivors include wife Piedad Palomares Chavarria of the family home sisters Angela Araujo of Artesia, N.M., Gloria Fierro of San Jose, California, and Maria Cortez of Albuquerque, N.M. brother Jesus Chavarria of Lake Arthur sons Nieves Chavarria and wife Josie of Lake Arthur, Juanito Chavarria and wife Josephine of Vista, California, David Chavarria and wife Marina of Lake Arthur, and Martin Chavarria and Elida Martinez of Lake Arthur daughters Lupe Rivera and husband Fredie of Artesia, and Amelia Segura and husband Jessie of Lake Arthur 22 grandchildren 24 greatgrandchildren and 3 greatgreatgrandchildren.
