Jorge Mendoza

Services are scheduled at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 12, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Jorge Mercado Mendoza of Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Mendoza, 79, died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the Artesia General Hospital. Fr. Paul Murtagh SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carlos Marcello Martinez, Benny Ray Casares, Eric Casares, Jr., Jose Manuel Martinez, Jacob Ryan Montoya, and Novel Martinez. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Friday at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Mendoza was born December 14, 1929 in Namiquipa, Chihuahua, Mexico; the son of Juan Mendoza and Magdalena Mercado Mendoza. On Sept. 29, 1975 he was married to Manuela Mendoza in Artesia. He came to Artesia from Mexico. He worked as a farm laborer and was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Jorge was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, a sister Elia Hernandez, and a brother Marcelino Mendoza. Survivors include his wife Manuela Mendoza of the family home; daughters Lidia Mendoza Salazar and husband Arnulfo of El Paso, TX, Sylvia Mendoza of Las Cruces, N.M., and Armandina Urtiz and husband Jorge of Artesia; sons Oscar Mendoza and wife Olivia of El Paso, Neal Martinez of Artesia, and Robert Martinez of Las Cruces; brothers Juan Mendoza of Mexico, and Preciliano Mendoza of Mexico; sisters Teresa Mendoza of Mexico, and Elisa Mendoza of Mexico; 23 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren.
