Johnny Fanning

Services are scheduled at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 25, at First United Methodist Church for Johnny L. Fanning, 18 Fanning Rd., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Fanning, 68, died Saturday, March 22, 2008 at his home. Rev. Paul Dean Duerksen will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 12 p.m. Monday. Mr. Fanning was born August 3, 1939 in Carlsbad, New Mexico; the son of Donald E. Fanning and Kathryn Lankford Fanning. On June 14, 1959 he was married to Gerene Havins in Artesia. He was a longtime resident of Artesia. He was a farmer and Irrigation Specialist. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Jaycees, Elks Lodge, and Board of Directors for A.A.G.A. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife Gerene Fanning of the family home; sons Jed Fanning and wife Susan of Albuquerque, N.M., and Joe Dee Fanning and wife Janlee of Artesia; daughter Jill Carpenter and husband Dean of Angleton, Texas; brothers Jerry Fanning and wife Lela of Artesia, and Gary Fanning of Artesia; 7 grandchildren Jared, Jael, Haylee, Lynzee, Brittney, Caleb and Trevor; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1492, Artesia, NM 88211; or to a Charity of Choice.
