Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 14, at First Baptist Church in Artesia for Johnny L. Baldwin of Carlsbad, New Mexico. Mr. Baldwin, 69, died Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the V.A. Regional Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Rev. John Burke will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his family members. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 2:00 p.m. Monday and again Tuesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. Mr. Baldwin was born March 22, 1940 in Plainview, Texas; the son of Clifford Baldwin and Catherine Vinizant Baldwin. He was a longtime Carlsbad resident after moving there as a child. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps. On Sept. 5, 1992 he was married to Catherine L. Cunningham in Artesia. She preceded him in death November 18, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and two of his brothers Tommy Baldwin and Kenneth Wade. Johnny was very active in Eddy County. He worked as a Mine Operator in the Potash Mines and he was a member of the Marine Corp League. He was of the Baptist denomination. Survivors include his son Jason Baldwin of Carlsbad; daughter Sandy Fry and husband Brian of Carlsbad; step-daughter Dana Carpenter of Artesia; sisters Barbara Hogan of Carlsbad, and Sue Wilson of Carlsbad; brother Jack Baldwin of Carlsbad; grandchildren Justin, Cody, and Kevin Fry; and numerous nieces and nephews.
