Johnnie Lee Cooper, 88, passed away Friday, September 09, 2011 at Heartland Care in Artesia, New Mexico.

Services will be held Monday, September 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Terpening Son Mortuary, with Pastor Jason Kraft, officiating. Lunch will be served at West Main Baptist Church immediately following. The family will have burial at Kenna Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m.

Johnnie was born February 25, 1923 to Earl and Katie Jane Collins in Breckenridge, Texas. Johnnie came to New Mexico in 1930 with her parents who homesteaded in Vaughn, N.M. Then moving to Floyd, N.M. In 1937 where she graduated high school In 1942. On October 17, 1943 Johnnie married Wesley Cooper. To this union was born two daughters and one son. A tragic accident took Wesley from her January 18, 1979.

In November, 1981 Johnnie moved to Artesia where she was active In Senior Center Mealsite programs. Serving on county board for EOCAC for over 2 years. Secretary at Senior Center for 5 years, President of Advisory Council for Meaisite, Chairman of building committee for mealsite. She was active many years In Senior Olympics. attending 3 National events competing in horseshoes shuffle board.

She was preceded in death by parents Earl and Katie Jane Collins, husband Wesley Cooper, sister Lois Watson and brothers Lewis Collins and Fred Collins, and a greatgranddaughter Victory Lieb.

Johnnie Is survived by her. daughter, Dale Burrow, of Lubbock Texas, son, Bobby Cooper and wife Susie of Kenna, daughter Denise Pinson and husband Willie of Artesia, sister Helen Rogers and husband Steve, brother Pete Collins and wife Lola, brother Gene Collins and wife Lorene, sister Jerry Ramsey, 12 grand children, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Shawn Burrow, Aaron Lieb, Ty Burrow, Clint Pinson, Brian Cooper, and Eric Owens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Artesia Adult Day Care Services or Lakeview Hospice.
