John Torres

Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 5, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for John O. Torres, 1006 W. Grand Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Torres, 82, died Tuesday, April 2, 2002 in Roswell, New Mexico. Father Virgilio Flores will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Torres, John Torres, Jr., Eddie Guy, Freddie Alvarez, Freddie Joe Cota, and Dave Torres. Honorary pallbearers will be all employees of Guy Chevrolet. A Rosary service is also planned for 6:30 P.M. Thursday at Our Lady of Grace. Mr. Torres was born May 16, 1919 in Artesia; the son of Cleto Torres and Maria Orona Torres. On June 19, 1940 he was married to Cuca Mata in Artesia. He was a mechanic and driver for Guy Chevrolet Company for over 40 years; and member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; and by three brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife Cuca Torres of the family home; a son John Torres, Jr. of Burlingame, Calif.; a daughter Frankie Hemby of Artesia; sisters Sophia Hurredia of California and Rachel Garcia and Tilly Rodriguez both of Artesia; a grandson Jonathan Torres of Maryland; and a great-granddaughter Gabriella Torres of Maryland.
