John Metcalf

Memorial services will be held at a later date for John L. Jack Metcalf, Lakewood, New Mexico. Mr. Metcalf, 71, died Friday, May 30, 2008 at his home. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening Son Mortuary. Mr. Metcalf was born November 3, 1936 in Montgomery, Missouri; the son of John Elmer Metcalf and Ethel Merle Thompson Metcalf. On Aug. 14, 1959 he was married to Sumie Kanawon in Japan. He came to Artesia in 2004 from Missouri. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the Unites States Marine Corps. He was an Aviation Electronic Technician, and member of the Baptist denomination. After retiring from the U.S. Marine Corp. and from civil service he and his wife traveled full time around the country. Survivors include his wife Sumie Metcalf of the family home; sons John Scott Metcalf of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Martin Lee Metcalf of Jackson, Virginia; brothers Don Metcalf of Missouri, and Wendell Metcalf of Maryland; 4 grandsons Karl, Samuel, Nicholas and Zachary.
