Funeral services are scheduled for 2 pm , Monday, April 26, 2021 at First United Methodist Church for John Calvin Knight of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mr. Knight, 84, died April 18, 2021 in Lubbock, Texas
Rev. Monty Leavell will officiate at the services. Burial will follow the services at Woodbine Cemetery.
Visitation will be at Terpening & Son Mortuary from2 pm - 6 pm on Sunday.
John was born January 2, 1937 in Bradford, Pennsylvania to Harry Glenn Knight and Nellie Leah Keyser Knight. He has two younger brothers Ronald and Gary.
John graduated from Kane Area High School on June 9, 1954. The Knight family moved from Lantz Corners, Pennsylvania to Artesia, N.M. in 1954.
He was inducted into the Air Force in El Paso, Texas on Feb. 1, 1956. He completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He received training in communcations at Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He served his country stationed at Reyknavik, Iceland. He was discharged at Holloman Air Force Base on August 7, 1958. He received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
John graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree on May 24, 1964. He then started working at J. S. Ward and Son Inc in 1964.
On June 14, 1986 he married Sharry Lewis at the First United Methodist Church in Artesia, NM.
On July 1, 1990, their son Jonathan Lee Knight was born at the Guadalupe Medical Center in Carlsbad. N.M.
John retired from J.S. Ward and Son in 1999 where he had worked for 35 years. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge for 55 years and the Artesia Elks Lodge for 51 years.
On Feb. 16, 2021, John was blessed with a precious grandson, Calven Knight. John would chuckle as he talked to Calven and watched him respond on "face time".
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gary Knight.
Survivors include Sharry Knight; a son Jonathan Knight and wife Vennessa of Peoria,Arizona; a brother Ronald Knight of Dallas, TX; grandson Calven Knight; aunt Kay Keyser of Kane, PA; nieces and nephews Karen Kinzer and husband Shane of Houston, TX, Katie Knight of Gainsville, TX, Kristie Lowery and husband Scott of Charlotte, N. Carolina, and Glenn Knight and wife Sherrill of Dallas, TX. Cousin Tom Knight of Old Fort, NC.
