Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Joel Lopez Aguirre, 911 N. Seventh Street, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Aguirre, 18, died Sunday, Dec. 9 near Moriarty, New Mexico. Fr. Paul Murtagh, SS.CC. will officate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be David Rosman, David Lucerro, P.J. Becerra, Leno Aguirre, Luis Rivera, and Zachary Orosco. Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers Eloy Aguirre and Hugo Aguirre and his cousins. A Rosary vigil service is also planned for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Church. Visitation at Terpening Son Mortuary will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Joel was born February 3, 1989 in Artesia; the son of Hugo M. Aguirre and Mary Helen Lopez Aguirre. In 2007 he graduated with honors from Artesia High School. He was a member of the band since the seventh grade and was a member of the Honor Society. He was currently a student at the University of New Mexico and member of Omega Delta Phi Fraternity. He was also a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by grandparents Incarnacion and Estefana Lopez and Leopoldo and Ofelia Aguirre, and by an aunt Dina Aguirre. Survivors include his parents Hugo and Mary Helen Aguirre of the family home; brothers Eloy Aguirre and Hugo Aguirre both the home; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
