Joe Borges

A prayer service is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Terpening Son Chapel for Joe Bettencourt Borges, Rt 456 N. 13th St., Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Borges, 66, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Carlsbad Medical Center in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Charles Polson will officiate at the prayer service. Burial will be at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery in Stockton, California at a later date. Pallbearers will be Joe Vitoria, John Sozinho, Gorge Sozinho, John Leonardo, Vielmino Mendes,Leonardo Vandenburg.

Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 10 a.m. Friday.

Joe was born October 24, 1945 in Azores, Portugal the son of Francisco Borges and Maria Bettencourt Borges. He came to Artesia in 1991 from California.

On April 2, 1971 he was married to Maria Rocha in Hilmar, California.

He was a dairyman and a member of the Catholic church, and he was heavily involved in Promise Keepers and Walk to Emmaus.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Maria Borges of Artesia sons Joseph R. Borges of Artesia, Frank R. Borges of Brea, California, and David R. Borges and wife Sandra of Artesia brother Francisco Vitoria of Galt, California sisters Maria Sozinho of Galt, California, and Francisca Pimentel of Elk Grove, California grandson Lucas Reid Borges of Artesia.
