Jimmie Martin

Services are scheduled at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 31, at First Presbyterian Church for Jimmie Neal Martin, 1306 Yucca Ave., Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Martin, 72, died Friday, December 28, 2007 at Lubbock Heart Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Rev. Cathy Anderson will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Dixon, Danny Montgomery, Delford Martin, Robert Martin, Bobby Snowden, Kyle Snowden, Tommy Montgomery and Larry Ivy. Honorary pallbearers will be all nephews, nieces, friends and members of the Elks. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Martin was born February 22, 1935 in Hollis, Oklahoma; the son of Frank Martin and Martha Randall Martin. He came to Artesia in 1942 from Oklahoma. On Aug. 28, 1953 he was married to Nila Naylor in Carlsbad, NM. He owned and operated Martin Trucking, he had also been a barber and a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Elks Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Willie, Junior, and Bud, sisters Effie Montgomery and Eva Holt. Survivors include his wife Nila Martin of family home; daughter Cindy Dixon and husband Darrel of Roswell, N.M.; sisters Alta Sis Walker of Artesia, and Billie Laman and husband Cecil of Artesia; brother-in-law Smokie Montgomery of Artesia; sister-in-law Betty Ann Martin of Las Vegas, Nevada; 2 grandchildren Daniel Dixon and Caryn Dixon; numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
