Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Jila Hernandez Briseno of Artesia, New Mexico.
Mrs. Briseno, 93, died Friday, January 11, 2013 at her home surrounded by her family.
Fr. Brian Guerrini, SS.CC. will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Steve Vargas, Bradley Briseno, Martin Campos, Joseph Briseno, Mario Barragan, Gabriel Briseno, Nico Briseno, Aaron Briseno, and Salvador Briseno. Cremation will follow the service and will be under the direction of Terpening Son Mortuary.
Visitation will be at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Sunday beginning at 2:00 p.m. A rosary will be at the church Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
Jila was born September 1, 1919 in Dayton, New Mexico the daughter of Jorge Hernandez and Martina Garcia Hernandez. She was a longtime Artesia resident.
On Nov. 8, 1941 she was married to Prudencio Briseno in Artesia.
Jila was a beautiful spirited woman whose greatest love was her family. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of Grace.
She was preceded in death by her parents siblings Dominga Marquez, Juanita Johnson, Carlos Hernandez, Juana Perez, Raymond Hernandez, Fernando Hernandez, and Thomas Hernandez son Florencio Lencho Briseno and grandsons Paul Almanza, Richard Briseno, Jr. and soninlaw Martin Campos.
Survivors include her daughters Angie Vargas and husband Frank of Roswell, N.M., Lupe Campos of Artesia, and Dolores Barragan and husband Omar of Artesia sons Al Briseno and wife Linda of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Ruben Briseno and wife Delia of Dumas, Texas, Solomon Briseno of Artesia, and Richard Briseno and wife Carmen of Roswell 28 grandchildren 29 greatgrandchildren 7 greatgreatgrandchildren sisters Essie Juarez Florencia Diaz, and Cruz Alvarado all of Artesia and brother Bonifacio Hernandez of Artesia.
