Jesus Martinez

Services are scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Monday, April 9, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church for Jesus P. Martinez, 502 N. 13th Street, Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Martinez, 77, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Landsun Health Service Center in Carlsbad, New Mexico. Fr. Richard Lifrak SS. CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. A rosary is also scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Sunday April 8, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Tony Garcia, J.C. Cardona, Luis Terrones, Michael Martinez, Jacob Martinez, and Eli Herrera. Honorary pallbearers will be all of the grandchildren. Mr. Martinez was born April 24, 1929 in Barrancos de Guadalupe, Chihuahua, Mexico; the son of Lucio Martinez and Ysidra Porras Martinez. On April 29, 1956 he was married to Paula Herrera in Artesia, New Mexico. He was a longtime resident of the Artesia area. She preceded him in death July 20, 1999. He was a hay hauler and a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and Cursillistas. Jesus was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Reza, 4 brothers, and 3 sisters. Survivors include sons, Robert Martinez and Jesus Martinez Jr.and wife Sylvia of Artesia; daughters, Mary Cardona and husband Leo of Levelland, Texas, Rosa Martinez and husband Steve of Carlsbad, and Dora Terrones and husband Luis of Carlsbad; brother Selso Martinez and wife Eloisa of Artesia; sisters Maria Martinez and Ramona Martinez both of Ojinaga, Mexico; 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
