Services are scheduled at 9:30 A.M. Saturday, September 3, at Our Lady of Grace Church for Jesus S. Hernandez of Artesia, New Mexico. Mr. Hernandez, 80, died Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at Artesia Good Samaritan Center. Fr. Paul Murtagh SS.CC. will officiate at the services with burial at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alvino Lopez, Fred Salcido Jr., Steven Salcido, Geoffrey Gonzalez, Nina Godoy, Eric Hernandez, Kathy Guajaca, and Robert Hernandez Sr. Visitation will be at Terpening Son Mortuary Friday starting at 10:00 A.M. A rosary will be at Our Lady of Grace Friday beginning at 6:30 P.M. Mr. Hernandez was born March 3, 1925 in Candelaria, Texas; the son of Martin Hernandez and Apolonia Solis Hernandez. On Sept. 1, 1943 he was married to Amelia Duran in Carlsbad, N.M. He came to Artesia in 1962 from California. He was a farm laborer and member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and a grandson Jesse Hernandez III. Survivors include his wife Amelia Hernandez of the family home; sons Benny Hernandez and wife Valentina of Odessa, Texas, Jesus Hernandez Jr. of Artesia, and Fernando Hernandez and wife Norma of Chula Vista, Calif.; daughters Angie Rodriguez and husband Tony of Tulare, Calif.; Connie Salcido and husband Fred Sr. of Dallas, Texas, and Dolores Lopez and husband Arthur of Artesia; brother Espiridion Hernandez of Artesia; sisters Juanita Balencia of Artesia, Socorro Medina of Lovington, N.M., and Martina Barrera of Artesia; 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
