Jessy James Ezell passed away on July 1, 2014 at the age of 85 surrounded by his loved ones. Graveside services will be held at Woodbine Cemetery on Thursday July 3 at 2:00pm with Leslie Hendrix and Nolan Frederick officiating. Nephews Kendall Hendrix and Jason Hendrix and grandsons Cory Frederick, Nolan Frederick, Travis DeMerritt, and Tanner Ezell will serve as pallbearers.
Jessy was born March 29, 1929 to James Irvin Ezell and Elsie Marie Ezell in Doniphan, Missouri. He later moved to Artesia where he met and married Alma Ruth Hendrix on August 1, 1953.
He was employed by John Deere where he worked as a farm machinery mechanic for 32 years. He also worked for the City of Artesia as a mechanic for ten years before retiring in 1993. In his later years, he enjoyed the company of his children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. Jessy also loved to play music, and formed the band Family Tradition which consisted of family and friends. He sang and played bluegrass for several years and performed at many area venues and senior citizens centers. He also enjoyed watching Nascar races. He will be remembered as a kind and caring man who loved his family and treated others with respect and dignity.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sons Jim Ezell and Rusty Ezell, daughter Jessica Mayfield, a son in law, a daughter in law, three brothers, and three grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Ruth Ezell of Artesia, brother Franklin Ezell of San Antonio, Texas sons Thomas Ezell and wife Debbie of Artesia, Ray Ezell of Artesia daughter Carolyn Frederick and husband Donald of Artesia 9 grandchildren, 19 greatgrandchildren, and 1 greatgreat grandchild
