Jerry Don Brown, 86, formerly of Artesia, New Mexico, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2022, in Lubbock, Texas. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and proud Artesia Bulldog.

He was born August 7, 1936, in Talpa, Texas, to Roy Miller and Frankie Trauber Brown. Jerry graduated high school from Abilene High in 1954. He pursued his bachelors and masters degrees at Hardin Simmons University graduating in 1958 and 1975, respectively, and was active in the world-renowned Cowboy Band. Jerry married Mary Ida Jackson on September 21, 1957, in Abilene, Texas.

Jerry became a teacher and coach in New Home, Texas, in 1958 and taught alongside his wife at various Texas schools before moving to Artesia, where they raised their family and became long-time residents. In addition to being an educator for over thirty years, Jerry was a decorated coach and was selected as the Central Texas Region Coach of the Year twice in Albany, Texas. He was also a talented referee and umpire and was inducted into the New Mexico Officials Hall of Fame and selected as the Southeast Regional Commissioner in 1989. Jerry was a dedicated veteran and served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Reserve.

Jerry was an avid golfer, sports fanatic and seashell connoisseur. He loved to travel and spend time on the green with friends and family.

He is proceeded in death by his wife Mary, his parents, sister Jean Dawson and brother Roy Brown, Jr.

He's survived by his sister Patsy Revell and his four children: Jerry Glenn Brown, Randy Brown and his wife Alison, Judi (Brown) Addison and her husband Tim, and Bill Brown and his wife Sancy. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren (with three more on the way): Megan (Brown) Parsley, her husband CJ and their sons Charlie and James; Logan Brown and his wife Michelle; Trevor Brown; Scott Addison, his wife Jennifer and their children Caleb and Audrey; Jordan (Brown) Griffin, her husband Dru and their sons Henry and Jack; Chris Addison, his wife Karolyne and their son Slade; Stephanie Addison and her husband Steven Lerch; Clayton Brown and his daughter Tatum; Landry Brown, his wife Lexi and their son Parker.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 25 from 2-4 p.m. MT at Terpening and Son Mortuary, 611 W. Grand Ave 88210, Artesia, New Mexico. A graveside service will be held the following morning, Friday, August 26, at 10 a.m. MT at Woodbine Cemetery, 201 E Hermosa Dr, in Artesia,with Chaplain Jim Powell officiating.

A celebration of life will be held for Jerry Saturday, August 27 at his home away from Artesia, Carillon Senior Living. The service will be held at Carillon in the Neil Chapel, 1717 Norfolk Ave in Lubbock with Chaplain Jim Powell officiating.
