Jeff Goodlander, 58, of Carlsbad, passed away Wednesday, April 14th in El Paso, Texas. Jeff was born March 1, 1958 in Hammond, Indiana. He was the youngest of three sons born to Gerald Goodlander and Lucille Campbell Goodlander.
Jeff sustained a birth injury and suffered from Cerebral Palsy. He lived at home for the first 35 years of his life, attending the Loving Care Nursery and the Lake County Association for the Handicapped, both in Indiana. At the age of 35 Jeff moved to Dunn-Garvin, a residential facility in Michigan City, IN. Ten years later he moved to a group home at the CARC facility in Carlsbad, NM where he resided for 10 additional years.
Jeff made many good friends among his housemates and staff where-ever he resided. He was a very sweet, outgoing people-person who also enjoyed music, television, trains, and watching baseball games. Jeff attended the Cavern Baptist Church in Carlsbad when he was able and enjoyed the hymns very much but according to his pastor, the sermons not so much.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald, and his brother, Jerry Jr. Jeff is survived by his mother Lucille, his brother Jim (Milda), "adopted sister" Janelle Carow, favorite nurse and friend Anita Rainwater, and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins in both Indiana and New Mexico.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening and Son Mortuary. A memorial service will be held at the CARC dining hall on Friday April 29th at 2:00 p.m. located at 902 Cherry Lane in Carlsbad. The family wishes to thank CARC for the awesome support they provided Jeff and his family and asks that in lieu of flowers contributions be made to CARC at P.O. Drawer 1808 in Carlsbad, 88221-1808.
