Jay Waldrip

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 20, 2021 at First Baptist Church for Jay Stanley Waldrip of Artesia, New Mexico.

Mr. Waldrip, 90, died May 17, 2021 at his home in Artesia.

Ty Houghtaling and Galen Isaacs will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jake Waldrip, Josh Waldrip, Brandon Shields, Johnathan Johnson, Darwin Thompson, and Davey Haynes.

Stanley was born on October 18, 1930 in Gomez, Texas; the son of J. T. Waldrip and Viola Madge Wright Waldrip.

He was married to Wanda Louise Chisum on August 26, 1950. He was a longtime resident of Artesia.

He was a member of First Baptist Church and served on many boards including Soil and Water Convservaton District, Agricultural and Conservation Committee, AAGA and PVT.

Stanley, also known as Mr. Loverly, loved to sing and play music. He enjoyed playing with his band, Little Bit O' Sunshine, especially at nursing homes and the Senior Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Barbara Harrison, and brothers-in-law Earl Harrison and Jim McCauley.

He is survived by his wife Wanda of the home; a daughter Jan Shields and husband David; sons Randy Waldrip, and Bruce Waldrip and wife Jan.; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren; sisters Sylvia Jean McCauley and Nolene Kay Pollard; also by numerous nieces and nephews.
