Services for Janice L. Caudle Thomas will be held at 11:00 at First Christian Church at 1006 W. Bullock Ave. on Saturday, July 2, 2016. Janice passed away peacefully at home among her family and friends on Friday, June 24, 2016.
Aunt Janice was bom in Seminole, Texas on October 20, 1948 to Brodie Burle and Anna Kate Caudle. She was raised in Hobbs, New Mexico and graduated from Hobbs High School in 1967. She touched lives and made life-long friends everywhere that she made her home including Missioula, Montana, Tucson, Arizona and the Mogollon Mountains. She married James Thomas in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 27, 1977. The couple moved to Artesia later that year. Janice worked as a homemaker, a Head Start Teacher, substitute teacher and was involved in the First Offenders Program. She eventually returned to college and earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University in 1996. She dedicated herself to helping those in need and worked for various counseling agencies in the area and most recently served on the board of the Artesia Public Library.
She was kind, compassionate and full of courage, generosity, strength and laughter. She loved children and her family dearly. She was an avid reader, talented writer and an outstanding cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her parents in-law Pat and Gray Thomas, brothers and sisters in-law Gerry, Peggy, Robert and Linda Thomas and her beloved niece Juliet Caudle.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband James of the home, daughter Jennifer Thomas of Roswell, sister Jean Patanella of Anaheim, California, brother Brodie L. Caudle of Tucson, Arizona, nieces Stacie Turpen of Dexter, Debbie Evans and Amber Wells of Houston, Kyra McLaughlin of Artesia, Michele Matsubara of Anaheim, California, nephews Joe Cain of Fort Cambell, Kentucky, Michael Thomas of Amarillo, Brodie Stark of Anaheim and Steven Thomas of Roswell. She also leaves behind a large community of friends all of whom she viewed as an extension of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Children's Miracle Network, Ronald McDonald House or a charity of your choice.
